History of the Woodward Dream Cruise...
Beginning in 1994, in the city of Ferndale, a resident, Mr. Nelson House, reached back into time
looking for a way to raise funds for a children's soccer field. His memories returned to the 50's
and '60's when Woodward Avenue swelled with young adults eager to "make the scene."
With a hope, prayer and a heavy dose of nostalgia, a group of Nelson and his vast group of volunteers
launched the Woodward Dream Cruise Car Show during the summer of '95. An estimated 30,000 spectators
and car enthusiasts were anticipated, but came 250,000 strong!
Since then, the Woodward Dream Cruise has become known as the "world's largest cruis'n vehicle show" fueled by hot rods, street
machines, classic cars and trucks with vintage rock 'n' roll sounds. What began as a simple fundraiser for a field of dreams has become
an automotive institution with over an estimated one-million spectators annually.
